Sony PMW-EX3 The PMW-EX3 is the big brother of the superb EX1. It features the same full HD 1/2″ CMOS image sensors and 35Mbps XDCAM EX recording but re-packaged into a larger chassis featuring a superb colour LCD monocular viewfinder, ergonomic shoulder brace and interchangeable EX lens mount.
Even though it’s not a full size shoulder-mount camcorder, the PMW-EX3’s innovative shoulder-brace design means that it is far more stable for handheld shooting.
It’s also great to be able to remove the standard 14x Fujinon lens and use a broadcast grade 1/2″ HD lens such as the Canon KH10ex3.6 which further enhances not only the angle of view but the image quality and handling of the camera.
The viewfinder is basically the EX1’s high resolution 3.5″ LCD panel repositioned and enhanced with a magnifying ‘loupe’ eyepiece. This allows the exclusion of extraneous light and is superb. Worth the extra money over the EX1 for this feature alone!
